Equine-assisted learning(EAL) is a fascinating blend of experiential learning, utilizing the unique qualities of horses to facilitate personal growth and development in participants. The presence of horses in these sessions offers a dynamic and powerful environment for individuals to explore their emotions, behaviours, and communication styles.

One of the key aspects of equine-assisted learning is the observation of non-verbal communication between the horse and the participant. Horses, as prey animals, are incredibly sensitive to their surroundings and can pick up on subtle cues from humans. By interacting with horses in various activities such as choosing, grooming, and walking, participants can gain valuable insights into their own emotions and behaviours.

The role of the facilitator in these sessions is crucial. They guide the participant through the activities, interpret the interactions between the horse and the individual, and facilitate discussions during the debriefing process. Through this guided reflection, participants can gain a deeper understanding of themselves and develop skills that can be applied to real-life situations.

The therapeutic benefits of working with horses are significant. Horses provide immediate and honest feedback, responding to the participant's intentions and behaviours without judgment. This creates a safe space for individuals to explore and overcome challenges such as fear and self-confidence issues.

Additionally, the social nature of horses allows for the development of relationships between the animal and the participant. This bond can be incredibly empowering and can further enhance the learning experience.

Overall, equine-assisted learning(EAL) offers a unique and effective approach to personal and professional development, harnessing the power of horses to facilitate growth, learning, and transformation.

My Story

Little Oak's Legacy

My name is Anne-Lena and I grew up in Germany. I was as little as 4 years old when my passion for horses began. My first horse, a 19 month old Haflinger Gelding, was gifted to me by my parents at age 11. It was here our journey unfolded... He has taught me a lot about life and was comforting me through my childhood trauma back then. Without really knowing it, he saved my life. He took me for endless trail rides and washed away the tears to bring a smile back on my face. He helped me to become a confident and strong person teaching so many skills. Later on at the age of 18 I began my life as an adult becoming a registered nurse in Cologne working my way up to become a case manager with a passion in the mental health sector. I then travelled the world and landed in Australia at the age of 30 and started a new life here in Queensland, got married to a local boy and have 2 gorgeous children. I worked for some years in the medical field but my passion for mental health grew and I started working as a mental health support worker , accomplished a certificate IV in mental health and completed a first aid mental health course.
